The biblesin the collection date from mid 1800s to 1900's. The bibles in the collection are very rare as most were designed for the specific lighthouse only one copy being provided. One in particular has out lived all the family members and the lighthouse it used to serve.
Bibles play a very important role in the life of the mariner even to this very day. In the Scottish lighthouse service, the Stevenson's were all religious and during the late 1700 and 1800s provided time off for the keepers and their family to attend church.
