The badgesin this collection date from late 1800s to mid 1900s. Badges were manufactured in various cities around the UK including, London and Birmingham. Some were cloth while others made from brass or a mixture of metals. Some of the badges have been worn with age and weather. Stitching on some cloth badges were created using wire.
Cap Tallies were used on the lightship and light vessel crew hats, known as Pork Pies. These Tallies/ribbons were tied in a bow at the back of the cap. There are no examples of NLB Tallies.
